Canada is a resource based economy. Oil and gas is Alberta’s contribution to that economy. We have been supporting this country with this resource since the strikes in Drayton Valley. If there are alternative ways to support the country let them get on with it. They don’t need to hamper our industries the way they are doing to compete. Just go ahead do it. In the meantime build the pipelines.

The time for this is NOW. Alberta has been the whipping boy for Canada for much too long. We have over contributed to the Canadian Federation for much too long without getting recognition for our contribution. It is time to put in place all of the above proposals. It is also time to get the groundwork laid for a possible separation from a country that does not value our contribution. There will be naysayers and die hard federalists that believe that the parasitic relation that the rest of Canada has with Alberta. They should speak their minds and then have their position analyzed and put in place in the context in which it is presented. If it hurts Alberta and if it continues the parasitic relation then the position should be ignored. Federalism should not be the one way street that it has been until now.

Quebec has been enjoying the benefits of a number of directions for a Fair Deal and Alberta needs to not only do the same but leverage other areas such as health, science, research, and skills. Alberta would be in a better position to give these the funds to the post-secondary institutions in areas that matter to Alberta. In addition the Feds have given “project” funding for trades, innovation and research and this would be better distributed by the Province on our priorities not the federal governments.
